Auto Parts, Take One For the Road

Image : http://www.flickr.com

We are planning a trip to Arizona in a little more than a week, and we need to make sure our van is up to snuff for the ride. We'll be traveling down through central and southern Utah, entering Arizona through page, heading down to the areas around Show Low, and finally stopping in St. Johns for the rest of our trip. We have some friends down there and will be visiting them for a few days before making the same trip back again. We'll be heading though all kinds of weather, and I expect to see snow, rain, and a lot of heat before the trip is over. All of our van's systems for dealing with the variations in weather must be working properly, or it might be an uncomfortable and unsafe voyage.

I think everything is working well, but just to be safe, we will likely invest in some extra auto parts. Aside from the spare tire, we'll have extra fuses and windshield wiper blades. I may also check with our auto insurance provider to see if there are any authorized repair shops along the way. We do plan to stop for the night on the way down, either at Bryce Canyon or somewhere in Page, and it might not be a bad idea to take advantage of the diagnostic services available at each location to make sure everything it running up to specs.

We want to have a good time, and the more we prepare now, the less we will have to worry about it once we are on the road.

Cheap Car Insurance in Charlotte, North Carolina

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Living in Charlotte, North Carolina offers many benefits including the charm of the city's southern hospitality. However, just like most major metropolitan centers in the United States, residents of Charlotte must have liability coverage on their motor vehicles. Failure to provide proof of the minimum amount of coverage including $150,000 for property damage, $25,000 for injuries per person per accident and an addition $50,000 to cover all injuries can result in a car not being registered. It's easy to see why it might be appealing to simply go out and purchase this no-frills type policy, but that's only going to be adequate in a few instances.

Most of us just need more coverage than that. It might be because we drive a car that is new or newer or it might be because we simply don't feel comfortable about the idea of having such limited coverage in the event an injury does occur. For this reason, there are many insurance companies in Charlotte, North Carolina all offering some form of car insurance coverage that is meant to appeal to the bulk of drivers. Finding the right policy that still offers cheap rates can be a challenge, but it certainly can be done.

One of the best and most effective ways to lower car insurance rates for anyone, regardless of the type of car they drive or their personal driving record is to request a higher deductible. Many insurance companies give quotes based on a deductible of $250. This is the standard amount that most people would pay should they have to cover the deductible on a claim. When the deductible is higher, the individual is agreeing to the premise that they'll pay the additional amount in exchange for a lower insurance rate. For someone who rarely, if ever, makes a claim, this is a great way to secure cheap car insurance in Charlotte, North Carolina.

What You Can Expect From An Insurance Settlement

Image : http://www.flickr.com

What Kinds of Compensation Can You Receive?

If you have been injured in an accident, you have rights. You have the right to recover money damages. However, what you are entitled to varies from state to state. I will address Nevada law since that is where I practice. However, I will also comment on issues that you need to identify within your own state. You are entitled to recover from the person who hurt you for all of your losses. You are entitled to be made "whole." This general rule has been altered in states where there is "no-fault" insuance or where there are recovery caps on damages. Otherwise, here are some of the kinds damages you are entitled to:

o Repair or replacement of your damaged property, including the car and other personal property

o Loss of past and future wages and earning capacity

o Payment of medical bills relating to your treatment from injuries sustained in the accident, including anticipated future medical expenses

o Compensation for your pain and suffering, mental and physical--past, present and future.

It is very important you know the value of these things and your potential for recovery before settling with the insurance company.

How Much Are My Damages Worth?
There are different ways of valuing your case. Your case is worth (1) what you are willing to be paid, (2) what the insurance company is willing to pay, or (3) what an arbitrator, judge or jury says it is worth. Attorneys and insurance companies keep track of these figures, and there are even books and databases that contain this information.

There are several ways of convincing an insurance company, judge or jury what your case is worth. The main thing is to provide documentation of all of the losses you have sustained. You have to document ALL of your losses in order to prove your case to the insurance company. After all, they are not in the business of handing out money. You have to prove your case.

Often, you will think your case is worth more than what the insurance company is willing to pay. Hiring an attorney with legal expertise will help you put a fair value on your case. Without professional help, you can research the value of your case in a library or on the Internet. These methods will not be as valuable as hiring your own professional.

How Do I Recover Money?
Typically, in order for you to recover money from the insurance company, you must suffer injury or sustain damages that caused by the negligence of a person or business that is a client of that insurance company.

When Will I be Paid?
Most of the time, you will not be paid the money until long after the accident, after you have finished treating for your injuries, your prognosis is known, and after the insurance company has had a lot of time to evaluate your all of the available evidence: the police report, witness statements, recorded statements of you and the other driver, the medical records and bills, and wage loss information. Usually it will take 6 to 9 months before you see a recovery.

You do not have to accept the first offer the insurance company makes you. You have the right to make counter-offers if you do not feel their offer is fair. Many people seek professional advice from an experienced attorney regarding this decision.

Once you agree on a figure, you sign documents releasing the adverse driver, their family and insurance company from any future obligation to pay.

How to Get Affordable Automobile Insurance in Georgia

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In the state of Georgia there are many wonderful cities and towns in which to live. Most people think of Atlanta when they are ready to make a move to this southern state. There is no denying that Atlanta is indeed a fantastic place to live but it's also generally more expensive when it comes to automobile insurance rates. For someone looking for affordable insurance they may want to live outside the confines of this big city, since the rates in Atlanta are more expensive than anywhere else in the state.

There are other ways to save on automobile insurance in Georgia that don't involve moving. One easy way to lower your policy premiums is by having a car security system installed. These typically consist of an alarm that you arm when you leave the car. If someone tampers with the vehicle while you're away they'll be scared off by the sound. insurance companies often reward drivers with a premium discount if they have one installed. Be prepared to show proof of installation by way of a sales receipt or service invoice.

If you've got a young driver in the home you are probably paying quite high premiums. A good way to lower the cost and make your insurance more affordable is to enroll them in a driver's training class. These classes are often offered by the local auto club and consist of time in the classroom as well as in the car. The student driver will receive a certificate once the course is complete and if that is presented to the insurance company, rates will likely drop which both the parent and the new driver will appreciate. Maintaining a spot on the honor list can also help the young driver qualify for a good student discount, which means lower premiums.

Changing Car Insurance Companies

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are many different reasons you may be considering switching your car insurance policy, but there are also quite a number of things that you need to consider before you do make that switch from the old one to the new one.

First of all, you need to make very certain that your new policy is already active and working for you before you do make your switch. Having written confirmation of this coverage will enable you to make your switch with confidence. Using email or faxes, insurance companies can now deliver proof of insurance fairly quickly and without delays.

Once you do have that proof of insurance, you can request that your old company cancel your coverage. You have to be careful to make sure that you are providing the old insurance carrier with your new policy information. This is because insurance companies are required to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles if there is a gap or loss of coverage on your part. Giving them the new name and number they don't end up notifying the DMV- and this can save you a lot of grief later on.

Depending on the policy that is replaced you may still yet have some work to do before you can really be sure that everything is properly set into motion. If you changed carriers at the end of your car insurance term, it is usually not all that different from filing for a renewal. You will likely have to obtain a new invoice for your premium payment, new policy ID cards and make sure that your policy terms and conditions are correct. However, if you did change insurance mid policy, this may require a bit more legwork to do correctly. Firstly, make sure that you get a cancellation endorsement. Simply canceling your policy and letting the old insurer know is not sufficient- many people do this and then find that they have a bill for the next premium anyway, so make sure that you get this in writing.

Toss out your old insurance ID cards and replace them with the new proof of insurance. When the old insurance policy has not run its full term, the cards you have will show the current policy term. This can really be beneficial if there is an accident so you are sure to be using the correct cards should something happen.

Also, make sure that you understand what your old insurance carrier does about unearned premiums- sometimes, insurance companies charge for short rate cancellation factor and this will be a percentage of your unearned premium more often than not.

Switching car insurance policies is generally easier than it may look here. As long as you are certain to make sure that everything you have from proof of insurance with the new company, to proof of cancellation of the old is in writing, you should be fine. Making the transition generally doesn't involve any sort of lapse in coverage and usually goes smoothly for those who have decided that they prefer one company or carrier to another.

Medicare & Medicaid Doctor Directory - How to Find Doctors Who Accept Medicare and Medicaid

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you are receiving Medicare and/or Medicaid, it can often be difficult to find a doctor, be it a general practitioner or specialist, who will accept your insurance. Unfortunately the payment schedules set up by the government have resulted in many doctors opting out of the system because they simply cannot afford the substantially lower payments for Medicaid/Medicare services as well as afford to pay for the substantially greater paperwork involved in taking such patients.

Sadly, government has had a tendency to reduce reimbursement payments, not increase them, and do not seem to be interested in covering the actual cost of providing services.

Not only that, but private insurers are not longer willing to "subsidize" public patients by paying higher rates, so doctors cannot shift the ever-increasing costs to them.

As a result, at a time when more and more doctors are opting out of the system, those doctors who still take Medicare and Medicaid patients generally limit the number they will serve, so finding a doctor who will take your Medicare or Medicaid insurance is not as easy as simply opening the phone book and making a phone call. Indeed, it probably will take some real time and effort on your part.

There is not, and never has been, any requirement that doctors treat patients insured by Medicare or Medicaid. Therefore, people with Medicare or Medicaid are increasingly turning to federally funded clinics, or even to emergency rooms that cannot, by law, turn them away. Sadly, using emergency rooms for non-emergency health care is unbelievably expensive, making the lower reimbursement Medicare/Medicaid rates not financially wise in the long run.

So, how do you find a doctor that will take new Medicare/Medicaid patients?

Well, first of all, do not expect to find a doctor or, should you find one or a clinic taking Medicare/Medicaid patients, do not plan on getting an appointment quickly. Sadly, that will not happen very often. Indeed, if you need quick care, the emergency room is likely to be your only recourse.

To track down Medicare/Medicaid providers, you can contact your local health department or social service agencies to find out more information and there are a number of Medicare and Medicaid doctor directories online. While they cannot guarantee you an appointment, they do have access to information about current providers.

You can also go to the Medicare website at Medicare.gov or call them at 800-633-4227 (TTY 877-486-2048) to find Medicare providers in your area, although there is no guarantee they will be accepting new patients. It is worth a try, though.

Also, managed care is probably a better bet than private practice. HMOs organized by private insurers have a practical interest in having HMO doctors taking government-insured patients, while Prepaid Health Plans (PHPs) are generally run by hospitals or medical schools, and often only accept Medicaid patients.
